Heart of the South Road Race : Bryant, Georgia
The event is a long-distance road race staged from Castle Rock Ranch near Bryant, Georgia. The course distance is approximately 350 miles, and the exact finish location is not disclosed before the event; the destination will be between 300 and 350 miles away from the assembly site.
Entrants assemble on Sand Mountain in North Georgia, park their vehicles in a field, and are transported by bus to the undisclosed destination. After arrival, participants are given access to maps that show the route back to their vehicles. Competitors spend one night in hotel lodging before being bused to the race start the following morning. From the start, runners must rely on supplies they carry or obtain along the way and have a ten day cutoff to reach their parked vehicles.
The organizer maintains tracking twice daily and requires entrants to report their location at morning and evening check-ins; failure to report will trigger a search. Runners may withdraw at any time by calling for pickup and will be transported back to the vehicle parking area. Finishers and their vehicles are shuttled to motels near the finish for rest before departing.
A wait list is maintained after the race reaches capacity. Refunds follow a declining schedule: 90% through December 24, then 80% January through February, 70% March and April, and 50% in May. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
