The Last Annual Heart of the South Road Race

The Last Annual Heart of the South Road Race is a multi-day, self-supported road event held in June 2026 in North Georgia. The route covers approximately 350 miles and begins from a remote start after participants park vehicles at Castle Rock Ranch on Sand Mountain and board buses to an unknown destination between 300 and 350 miles away.

Entrants spend an overnight motel stay in double-occupancy rooms before being bused to the start. From the start, runners must rely on the supplies they carry or obtain along the way and have a ten day cutoff to reach the finish. Organizers maintain twice-daily tracking and require entrants to report their location by phone in the morning and evening; failure to check in will result in a search.

Competitors who choose to withdraw may call for pickup and will be transported back to the car park at the earliest feasible time. Finishers are shuttled with their vehicles to motels near the finish for rest before departing by car. A wait list is maintained once the race is full.

The event includes a scheduled bus ride on June 10 and a race start on June 11, 2026. Registration closes June 9, 2026. A graduated refund policy applies: 90% refunds until December 24, then reduced refunds by month through May. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
