The Last Annual Heart of the South Road Race
The event is an out-and-back road adventure held in Bryant, GA, offered in two distances. Entrants park vehicles at Castle Rock Ranch and are bused backward along the course to the start area, where they spend one night in double-occupancy motel rooms before being transported to the race start the next morning. Runners must carry or obtain their own supplies during the race.
Runners have 10.5 days to return from the start to their parked vehicles. Course maps are provided to participants after arrival at the remote destination. Twice-daily location reporting by phone is required and race staff maintain tracking; runners who choose to withdraw are transported back to their vehicles when feasible. Finishers and their vehicles are shuttled to motels near the finish.
Logistics and administration include a lottery and wait list system, with an initial lottery scheduled for August 1, 2026, and a wait list used to replace withdrawals. The published entry fee is 749 USD. Refunds follow a declining schedule: 90% through December 24, 80% January–February, 70% March–April, and 50% in May; later refunds depend on replacement from the wait list.
