Heart of the South Road Race
The Last Annual Heart of the South Road Race is an approximately 350 mile point to point road event based from Bryant, Georgia. Entrants park vehicles in a cornfield at Castle Rock Ranch atop Sand Mountain and are transported by bus to an undisclosed destination roughly 300 to 350 miles away.
After arrival at the destination, runners receive maps of the course that will guide them back to their vehicles. The group stays overnight in motel rooms, is bused to the start the following morning, and then must travel back to the parked vehicles using only supplies they can carry or obtain along the route. Competitors have ten days to complete this return.
Organizers maintain twice daily tracking and require entrants to report their location by phone at 07:30 and 19:30 each day; failure to check in will trigger a search. Runners may withdraw at any time by calling for a ride to the car park; transportation is furnished as soon as feasible. Finishers are shuttled with their vehicles to motels near the finish for an overnight rest before driving.
Key administrative details: bus ride June 10, 2026; race start June 11, 2026; registration closes June 9 at 11:59 PM CT. Refunds are available on a declining scale: 90% through December 24, then 80% January through February, 70% March and April, and 50% in May; refunds after December 24 also depend on replacing the withdrawing entrant from the wait list. A wait list is maintained and replacement withdrawals receive refunds at the listed rates. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
