The Last Annual Heart of the South Road Race
The event is a multi-day, point-to-point road race based at Castle Rock Ranch near Bryant, Georgia. The course is roughly 350 miles long. Entrants assemble at a parking area on Sand Mountain and leave their vehicles there for the duration.
Participants are transported by bus to an undisclosed destination between 300 and 350 miles away, where they receive maps of the route back to their parked vehicles. After an overnight motel stay, runners are bused to the start and must return to their vehicles within a ten day cutoff using only the supplies they carry or obtain along the way. A bus ride is scheduled for June 10 and the race start date is June 11, 2026. Registration closes June 9, 2026.
Safety and monitoring include twice daily tracking and required location check-ins by phone. Failure to report will trigger a search. Runners who choose to drop may call for pickup and will be transported back to the car park as soon as feasible. Finishers are shuttled with their vehicles to motels near the finish for rest before departing by car.
A wait list is maintained after the race fills. Refunds follow a declining schedule: 90% until December 24; January and February 80%; March and April 70%; May 50%. Withdrawals replaced from the wait list receive refunds at the listed rates. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
