Event overview

The Last Annual Heart of the South Road Race is a multi-day road event based in Bryant, GA, with the course listed at about 350 miles. Runners are transported by bus from a parking area at Castle Rock Ranch to a start location that is between 300 and 350 miles from their vehicles. Entrants receive course maps after arrival and then have a ten day cutoff to return to their parked cars.

Logistics and rules

A bus ride is scheduled for June 10, 2026, and the race start date is June 11, 2026. Registration closes on June 9, 2026. Entrants are lodged overnight in double-occupancy motel rooms before being taken to the start. Finishers are shuttled with their vehicles to motels near the finish.

Runners must carry only the supplies they can obtain or carry along the route. Check-ins by phone are required twice daily at the prescribed times each day; failure to check in will prompt a search. Entrants may drop out at any time by calling in; transportation back to the parking area will be provided when feasible. A wait list is maintained after the race fills. Refunds are available on a declining scale: 90% until December 24, then 80% (January-February), 70% (March-April), and 50% (May), with post-December refunds dependent on replacement from the wait list. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
