About the race
The Last Annual Heart of the South Road Race is an ultra-distance road event held in Bryant, GA, scheduled June 9–19, 2027. The event offers two distance options:
- 400 miles
- 350 miles
Entrants park their vehicles at Castle Rock Ranch on Sand Mountain and board tour buses. The buses transport the field to an unknown location that will be between 350 and 400 miles from the parking area. After arrival, runners receive maps showing the course back to their vehicles. The field stays overnight in motel rooms in double occupancy before being bused to the start the next morning.
From the start, runners carry only the supplies they can obtain along the way and have 10.5 days to return to their parked vehicles. Organizers maintain twice daily location reports by phone at 07:30 and 19:30 each day; failure to report prompts a search. Runners may withdraw at any time and will be transported back to the parking area when feasible. Finishers are shuttled, with their vehicles, to motels near the finish.
Entry and logistics details include a lottery with an initial draw on August 1, 2026, a maintained wait list, a published refund schedule with declining percentages through May, and an entry fee listed at 749.00 USD. Registration closes June 1, 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
