Event Overview
The Burnley Way Ultra & BWORM is a multi-distance off-road event held in Lancashire. The competition utilizes the paths and trails of the Burnley Way, taking participants through a variety of terrain including moorland, canal towpaths, agricultural fields, and hills. The event is licensed under ARC and offers options for both solo runners and pairs.
Distance Options
Participants can choose between two distinct routes:
- 40 mile (Burnley Way Ultra): Approximately 60 km with 1690 m of elevation gain.
- 27 mile (The BWORM): Approximately 43 km with 1347 m of elevation gain.
Navigation and Equipment
While the routes follow the signposted Burnley Way, the organizers provide a written course description, a marked map, and a GPX file for navigation. Because the course traverses remote sections, specific kit requirements are mandatory for every runner. This includes full waterproof tops and bottoms, a hat, gloves, a compass, a whistle, emergency food, and the provided map. These requirements align with FRA mandatory minimum kit standards.
Location and Logistics
The event begins at Finsley Gate Wharf in Burnley. Registration takes place on the morning of the event prior to the start. The routes are primarily off-road, and the organizers recommend that participants familiarize themselves with the terrain beforehand. Registration is open to individuals or teams of two.
