The Lake Carey Loop
The Lake Carey Loop is a sprint distance triathlon held at Lake Carey in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. Registration takes place at the Lake Carey Volunteer Fire Department. The event start and finish are near the Shore Drive and Siren Road intersection, with water entry at the concrete boat ramp and dock in that area. The swim and paddle legs use marked or anchored buoys or boats on the lake.
Distances and key segments:
- 750 m swim or 2 mile paddle
- 20 km bike on township and state secondary roads
- just over 5K single-lap run around the lake
The bike course begins and ends at the water section egress and is run on rolling hills with many turns and a variety of paved surfaces; it includes a short sealed gravel segment and does not include dirt roads. Road or mountain bikes are permitted; electric bicycles are not allowed. Bikes may be dropped off and staged at the shoreline bike drop location.
The run is one full circuit of the lake and finishes near the start area under the timing arch and clock. Special awards recognize the fastest male and female competitors, the fastest team of veterans and first responders, and the fastest corporate team. The event is presented by Moose Lodge #1276 Tunkhannock Chapter, a 501(c)(3), and supports family scholarships and other local causes in the Lake Carey area.
