The Lake Carey Loop
The Lake Carey Loop is a sprint distance triathlon held at Lake Carey in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. The race start and finish are located near the Shore Drive and Siren Road intersection, with water entry at the concrete boat ramp and adjacent yard area. The swim and paddle courses use marked or anchored buoys and boats on the lake.
Distances offered:
- 750 m swim
- 2 miles paddle
- 20 km bike course
- Just over 5K one lap run
Bikes are staged at 361 Shore Drive at the water section egress. The bike course runs on township and state secondary roads and a short section of Route 92. The route features rolling hills, many turns, and various paved surfaces; one small sealed gravel section is on Mason Road. Road or mountain bikes are permitted, electric bikes are not allowed.
The run is a single circuit around the lake that finishes at the timing arch and clock near the start area. The event includes individual and relay team options for both the swim and paddle variations. The event is presented by a local Moose Lodge chapter as a 501(c)(3) and helps promote and assist funding for a family scholarship fund and other local causes in the Lake Carey area and nearby counties.
