Kokoda Challenge - Sydney
The Kokoda Challenge - Sydney is a team endurance event on 19–20 September 2026 that takes place across Heathcote and Royal National Park, with the start area at Helensburgh (Rex Jackson Oval). Teams of 2 to 5 participants are required; solo entries are not permitted.
Participants choose one of three course distances:
- 18 km
- 48 km
- 96 km
Each course follows trails through Heathcote and Royal National Park, passing rugged bushland, clifftop coastline and ocean views. The event includes staged checkpoints: the 18 km course has 3 checkpoints, the 48 km course has 7 checkpoints and 1 support crew checkpoint, and the 96 km course has 11 checkpoints and 4 support crew checkpoints. Minimum ages are set by distance: 9 years for 18 km, 13 years for 48 km, and 15 years for 96 km. Time limits are published for each distance: 9 hours for 18 km, 20 hours for 48 km, and 39 hours for 96 km.
Teams must meet a minimum fundraising requirement before the event; registration fees and minimum fundraising amounts vary by team size and distance. The event supports the Kokoda Youth Foundation’s funded youth programs and honours the service of the Kokoda diggers. Course maps and support crew details are provided to teams closer to the event date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
