The Great West Walk 2026
The Great West Walk is a guided community walking event that follows sections of Exeter’s Green Circle route, starting and finishing at St James Park, Exeter. The route visits a range of green spaces and local neighbourhoods and is organised by Exeter City Community Trust to support wellbeing and community projects across Exeter.
Participants are organised into guided walking groups led by trained staff and volunteers. Pacer groups will cover different walking speeds, and group leaders provide on-route support. Groups will pause for about 15 minutes at each staffed checkpoint to rest and refuel.
There are four staffed checkpoints on the route: University Gardens, Wonford, Alphington and Exwick. Each checkpoint supplies hot drinks and snacks where available, and toilet facilities will be provided where possible. Participants are encouraged to bring a packed lunch and any extra food or refreshments they may need.
The event aims to be accessible. Where parts of the Green Circle present accessibility challenges, alternative routes and detours will be used so more people can take part. Entry requires a fee of £10 and a minimum fundraising target of £35. Event staff and volunteers will provide route support and safety information throughout the day.
