The Great Jones County Fair 5K Race
The Great Jones County Fair 5K is a community 5K held during fair week in Monticello, Iowa, in collaboration with Monticello Parks and Recreation. The course winds around the fairgrounds, passes livestock barns and the track, continues past the Monticello Golf Course, and goes through Riverside Gardens. Organizers intend to mark a continuous chalked line and add additional signage along the route.
Participants may walk or run. Chip timing is provided by B & W Racing. Entry includes a complementary fair ticket and an additional surprise. Awards include fair ribbons for the top three male and female finishers in each race and in the following age categories: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and older.
This is the event's second year. Proceeds from the race support year-round adult programming and community events. Recent uses of proceeds include wellness classes and leagues, outdoor adventure activities, learn-to-play sessions, a Walk & Learn series, and community events such as movie nights and senior socials.
