About the race
The Forest Grind is a weekend running festival at Forest Hills Sports Club, Durban, organised by Forest Hills Athletics. It combines a continuous endurance event, a family run, and a beer mile with on-site camping and event facilities.
Events on the course include:
- The Big Grind: repeated 5 km laps over a 24 hour period, with a minimum of 12 laps required to qualify for the final ranking.
- The Mini Grind: a single 5 km lap aimed at families.
- The Grind & Glug: a beer mile of 1 mile (1.6 km) split into four 400 m laps, offered for solo runners and teams of two or four.
Camping is included with entry. Clean ablutions, food vendors and a bar will be available on site. The Big Grind offers a bonus: entrants who complete 12 full laps receive a free solo entry to the Grind & Glug as an additional lap. Awards and prizes are planned, including a Best Dressed Award for the themed beer mile. The Big Grind ultimate winner has their name added to a floating trophy. The venue address is 42 Forest Dr, Forest Hills, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
