The Emerald Mile
The Emerald Mile is a Run Ottawa event held in the heart of the capital in conjunction with the city’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Proceeds from the race go toward supporting the parade festivities. The event takes place on a closed course, allowing participants to run through iconic urban streets during the city-wide celebration.
The following distances are available:
- One mile
- 1.5 km kids race
The one mile course follows the official parade route. It begins at the Supreme Court of Canada on Wellington Street and continues past Parliament Hill. Runners cross the Rideau Canal, proceed along Sussex Drive, and turn onto York Street before finishing in the ByWard Market.
The kids 1.5 km race uses an out and back format. Both the start and finish lines are located near the Supreme Court of Canada to accommodate spectators and families.
Registration includes professional race timing with chip results, as well as post-race snacks and beverages. Participants who complete their registration by February 27 receive a personalized race bib. To assist with logistics, a free shuttle service operates between 301 Wellington Street and 75 York Street on the day of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
