The Elizabeth Ferris Memorial 5K

The Elizabeth Ferris Memorial 5K is an athletic event held at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, New York. Hosted by the family of Elizabeth Ferris, the run serves to raise awareness for pancreatic cancer research, with net proceeds donated to the Lustgarten Foundation. The event takes place on a USATF certified 5 km course located within the scenic Secatogue Lands of the park.

Participants have the choice between two primary formats:

  • 5 km Run/Walk
  • Virtual 5 km Run/Walk

The in-person race provides several amenities, including live results sent via text or email and free finish line photographs. Participants who register at least three weeks before the event receive a personalized race bib. The event also features a memory wall where attendees are encouraged to bring a photo of a loved one. Additional activities include cash-only basket raffles.

Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers overall. Recognition is also given to the top male and female participants in several age categories, ranging from 19 and under up to 70 and over.

The virtual option allows participants to complete their distance at any location between October 25 and November 1. Virtual runners can track their progress using various methods such as treadmills or GPS apps and upload their times and photos to a central results portal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
