The Drop - Skipton

The Drop is a navigation challenge held in Skipton where participants are taken to an unknown location and must find their own way back to the event centre on foot. The event uses no marked route, and participants do not receive maps, GPS, compass, or other navigation aids during the challenge. Distances are measured as the crow flies and actual travel distance will be significantly longer.

Choose your challenge

• 15 mile undisclosed drop 15 miles as the crow flies
• 10 mile undisclosed drop 10 miles as the crow flies
• 6 mile undisclosed drop 6 miles as the crow flies for non-locals only

At registration participants surrender electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids and receive a race number plus a sealed emergency bag to carry for the duration. Deployment is by bus while wearing blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives; participants do not know their location or facing direction until the blindfolds are removed. Timing begins when blindfolds come off.

Rules require on foot only, no unauthorised maps, no active GPS, and maintaining emergency bag integrity. The Drop 6 is restricted to non-local participants to avoid local knowledge advantage; entries may be checked.

Live GPS tracking is available as an optional feature. Trackers are accurate within about 5 metres, must be returned after the event, and a replacement fee of £175 applies if not returned. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
