The Drop - Nottingham
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge based at Up & Running, 6 Exchange Arcade, Nottingham, NG1 2DD. Participants are taken to an unknown location and must find their own way back to the event centre on foot, without maps or electronic navigation aids.
Distances offered include:
- 15 miles
- 10 miles
- 6 miles (non-locals only)
At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and other navigational aids and receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag to carry for the duration. Deployment is by bus while wearing blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives; when blindfolds are removed the clock starts and each person must navigate independently.
Key rules include no GPS unless the device is sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, travel on foot only, and disqualification if the emergency bag seal is broken. Distances are measured as the crow flies and the actual distance travelled will typically be longer. Entries for the 6-mile option may be checked to confirm non-local status.
Live GPS tracking is available as an optional feature for safety and sharing. Trackers are accurate to about 5 metres but can be affected by tall buildings; trackers must be returned at the end of the event or a replacement fee will apply.
