The Drop is a navigation challenge based at Up & Running, Unit 4, Barton Arcade, Manchester M3 2BH. Participants are blindfolded, driven to an undisclosed drop location, and must find their own way back to the event centre without maps, GPS, or other navigation aids.

Three distance options are offered:

• 15 miles
• 10 miles
• 6 miles (non-locals only)

At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. In return they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration; breaking the seal leads to disqualification. Deployment includes boarding a bus and wearing blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives such as blackout safety goggles.

Timing starts when blindfolds are removed. Rules state no unauthorised maps, no GPS unless devices are sealed inside the emergency bag, and travel must be on foot only. Distances are measured as the crow flies, so the actual distance travelled will typically be longer.

A live GPS tracking system is used as part of safety procedures. Access to tracking is password protected and organisers will provide login details before the event. Trackers should be returned after the event or a replacement fee will apply. Trackers are typically accurate to within 5 metres though tall buildings or signal black spots can cause short delays.
