The Denim Run - NYC

The Denim Run - NYC is part of a national race series held during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The event serves to honor survivors, foster community belonging, and raise awareness. It is organized through a partnership between the Zoomies Run Club and the Summer Foundation.

Participants are encouraged to wear denim during the event to show solidarity and challenge misconceptions surrounding sexual violence. This initiative is inspired by the global Denim Day movement, which originated as a protest against victim-blaming. The New York City event is one of the inaugural locations for the series, alongside Austin and Los Angeles.

The event features the following distances:

  • 5K
  • Kid's Run

The 5K registration includes a medal and a shirt, though participants have the option to opt out of these items for a discounted rate. The course involves a gathering at a pier in the New York City area. In addition to the physical run, the event incorporates fundraising efforts for various organizations, including the Summer Willis Foundation, End Rape on Campus, Survivors.org, and Callisto. These organizations provide services and support for survivors of sexual assault.

The event is open to runners, walkers, and supporters. Local and virtual participation options are available to help build a community focused on resilience and action. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
