Event details
The MTC Cotswold Ultra is a point-to-point ultramarathon of 57 miles with 370 m ascent and 474 m descent. The race finishes at Travelodge Abingdon Road, Oxford. All finishers receive a bespoke Cotswold Ultra medal and all competitors receive an MTC head visor at the start. Bespoke trophies are awarded to the first male and first female finishers. Entry for an individual is listed at £90. Deposits and payments are non-refundable.
Route, checkpoints and logistics
The route follows the Thames Path from Kemble Station to the river source, then continues through Somerford Keynes, Cricklade, Castle Eaton, Blackford Farm, Lechlade, Shifford Lock, Newbridge and Bablock Hythe before finishing in Oxford. There are four check-points that supply water and nutrition; example items include malt loaf, sandwiches, nuts, dried fruit, sweets, squash, cola and water. CP segment distances are:
- Start to Checkpoint 1 - 8.4 miles
- Checkpoint 1 to Checkpoint 2 - 9.8 miles
- Checkpoint 2 to Checkpoint 3 - 12.8 miles
- Checkpoint 3 to Checkpoint 4 - 13.2 miles
- Checkpoint 4 to Finish - 12.6 miles
Competitors must be self-sufficient for transport to the start and from the finish. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, OS Map or downloadable maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid kit. Entrants must maintain an average of at least 4.0 miles per hour; falling below this requirement may result in removal from the race.
