The MTC Cotswold Ultra
The MTC Cotswold Ultra is a point-to-point ultra running event covering 57 miles. The route follows the Thames Path from Kemble Station to Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road and passes Somerford Keynes, Cricklade, Castle Eaton, Blackford Farm, Lechlade, Shifford Lock, Newbridge and Bablock Hythe. Total ascent is 370 metres and total descent is 474 metres. All finishers receive a bespoke Cotswold Ultra medal and competitors are issued an MTC head visor at the start. Bespoke trophies are awarded to the first male and female finishers.
Route, checkpoints and support
The course uses existing Thames Path signage and a GPX file or route maps are provided. There are four checkpoints that provide water and nutrition; example items include malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, nuts, dried fruit, sweets, squash, cola and water. Organisers attempt to cater for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian diets; other dietary needs should be supplied by the competitor and can be placed in drop bags at checkpoints.

- Start to Checkpoint 1: 8.4 miles
- Checkpoint 1 to Checkpoint 2: 9.8 miles
- Checkpoint 2 to Checkpoint 3: 12.8 miles
- Checkpoint 3 to Checkpoint 4: 13.2 miles
- Checkpoint 4 to Finish: 12.6 miles
Entry, kit and rules
Competitors must provide their own transport to the start and from the finish. Entrants must carry mandatory kit, including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, OS Map 150 (or downloadable maps), compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid kit. The organisers require an average minimum pace of 4.0 miles per hour; participants who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn from the event. Entry fees are non-refundable.
