The MTC Cotswold Ultra
The MTC Cotswold Ultra is a point-to-point ultra marathon covering a distance of 57 miles. The route primarily follows the Thames Path, beginning with a trek from Kemble Station toward the source of the river. Participants then retrace the path through Somerford Keynes and Cricklade, continuing through meadows and along the river toward Lechlade. The course passes several meanders, bridges, and locks including Shifford Lock, Newbridge, and Bablock Hythe, eventually concluding at Abingdon Road in Oxford.
The event features four timed checkpoints where runners can find water and nutrition. Available items typically include malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, nuts, dried fruits, and various drinks. The organizers provide options for Gluten Free, Vegan, and Vegetarian diets upon request. To remain in the event, participants must maintain a minimum speed of 4 mph, including stops.
Participants are required to carry mandatory safety equipment, which includes:
- A backpack
- A head torch with spare batteries
- Ordnance Survey Map 150 or downloadable equivalents
- A compass or GPS device
- A whistle and mobile phone
- A basic first aid kit
All finishers receive a bespoke medal and a technical tee shirt. At registration, every competitor is also provided with a head visor. Dedicated trophies are awarded to the first male and female finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
