Erie Canal Races - Boilermaker Road Race
The Erie Canal Races is a road running event held on Sunday, May 16, 2027, presented by Wolfspeed. The event offers multiple distances and uses the Erie Canal Trail and the Whitesboro High School track as key course features.
Distances:
- 10 miles
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- Two person 10 mile relay, 5 miles per runner
The course begins and ends on the Whitesboro High School track. Runners leave the track onto a footpath adjacent to the school, cross the pedestrian bridge at Paul Becker Road over Route 49, and continue onto the Erie Canal Trail for an out-and-back route. 10 mile runners turn around just before the Harbor Point Lock and return to finish on the track. Relay teams complete the handoff near the 5 mile mark, just before the Harbor Point Lock. The 5K follows the same course with a clearly marked halfway point directing runners back to the track.
Registration is conducted online through RunSignUp and will remain open until each event reaches its cap; there are no paper applications. Packet pickup is available at the Boilermaker Corporate Office and near the start/finish at Whitesboro High School on race weekend. Registrations include a T-shirt, commemorative medal, on-course water stations and support, and post-race snacks.
The course is restricted to registered runners and official race personnel. Walkers, dogs, skateboards, in-line skates, roller skates, bicycles, and strollers are prohibited, and the use of headphones is strongly discouraged. Events are held rain or shine, with weather-related communications sent to the email used for registration and posted on social media. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
