Erie Canal Races - Boilermaker Road Race
The Erie Canal Races take place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, and include multiple timed events along the Erie Canal Trail. Distances offered include:
- 10 miles
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- 10 mile relay for two-person teams
All races begin on the Whitesboro High School track and move onto the adjacent footpath toward Paul Becker Road. Runners cross the pedestrian bridge over Route 49 and continue onto the Erie Canal Trail for an out-and-back course that turns near the Harbor Point Lock before returning to Whitesboro High School to finish on the track. Relay exchanges occur near the 5 mile mark just before the Harbor Point Lock. The 5K follows the same route with a marked halfway point.
The 10 mile and the 10 mile relay were sold out for 2026; a waitlist exists for the 10 mile event. Registration is handled online through RunSignUp. Packet pickup is scheduled on the days before and the morning of the race at the Boilermaker Corporate Office at 805 Court Street, Utica, NY and near the Start/Finish at Whitesboro High School, 6000 Route 291, Marcy, NY.
The course is restricted to registered runners and official race personnel. Walkers, dogs, skateboards, in-line skates, roller skates, bicycles, and strollers are prohibited. Race registration includes a T-shirt, commemorative medal, on-course water stations, and post-race snacks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
