The Big Deal at Great Seal

The Big Deal at Great Seal is a trail running event in Chillicothe, Ohio, organized by RunFluent. The event uses a 20 mile loop as the primary course and offers multiple distances that use one or more laps of that loop.

Distances

  • 100 mile (five laps of the 20 mile loop)
  • 100k (three laps plus a finishing loop)
  • 20 mile (one lap)
  • 5k (single loop)

The course is mostly single track, with roughly 95 percent single track and about 3100 to 3200 feet of elevation gain per 20 mile loop. The first loop includes the Sugarloaf Mountain climb; later laps bypass that climb. Several named trail features appear along the route, and some midloop sections allow two way traffic. A recent course change removed a section called Shrake Road for safety.

There are five aid stops on the 20 mile loop, including the Start/Finish at Ireland Shelter and stops at Rocky Road and Lick Run. Aid stations are stocked with water, soda, electrolytes, hot food and snacks. Crew access is permitted at Ireland Shelter and Lick Run; crew access at Rocky Road or other on-course locations is not allowed except in emergencies.

Rules and services include 100 mile cutoffs of 36 hours total and a requirement to begin the final lap within 28 hours. Pacers are allowed for 100k and 100 mile after the first lap, must be registered as pacers, wear a pacer bib, and access runners only at Ireland Shelter or Lick Run.

Packet pickup for 100 mile and 100k runners occurs on the Friday night before the race at 50 West Brewing, 1 N Paint Street, Chillicothe OH 45601. Mandatory gear for 100 mile and 100k includes a GPX file on a device, two headlamps or equivalent batteries, a whistle, an emergency foil blanket, at least 1 liter carrying capacity for water, and a collapsible cup.

Runners may use up to three drop bags (one per aid station), with limits on size and labeling. Finishers receive distance-specific awards including a metal buckle for 100 mile finishers and a wooden belt buckle for 100k finishers. The event does not issue refunds; deferrals to future RunFluent events are offered in place of refunds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
