The Big Deal at Great Seal
The event takes place at Great Seal State Park near Chillicothe, Ohio, with a mapped meeting point at 4908 Marietta Road. Multiple distance options are offered.
- 100 mile (5 laps of the 20 mile loop)
- 100k (3 laps plus a 2 mile finishing loop)
- 20 Miler (1 lap)
- Adult 5k (single loop)
- 5k YOUTH (single loop)
The course is a roughly 20 mile loop that now avoids the Shrake Road section. Organizers report about 3100 to 3200 feet of elevation gain per loop. The route is mostly single track with some dual track and includes named landmarks such as Sugarloaf, Ireland Shelter, Bald Hill, Rocky Road, Lick Run, Shawnee Ridge, and others. Certain mid-loop sections will have two-way traffic; the course will be marked.
Cutoff policy for the 100 mile distance is 36 hours total, and runners must begin their final lap within 28 hours. There are no additional cutoffs for shorter distances. Final decisions about continuing on course are at the race director's discretion.
Aid is located at five stops around the loop and will include water, soda, electrolytes, hot food, and snacks. Crew access is allowed at the start/finish and Lick Run aid stations only. Runners may set up a single 10x10 canopy near the start/finish.
Finishers receive distance-specific awards including buckles and woodals, plus podium awards for the top three men and women. A Golden Goat award is given to those who finish the 100 mile under 26 hours or to the top ten percent of finishers if no sub 26 hour result occurs.
Packet pickup is mandatory for 100 mile and 100k entrants and is scheduled Friday May 1 at 50 West Brewing, 1 N Paint Street, Chillicothe, OH from 4pm to 7pm. 20 milers and 5k runners may pick up either Friday night or on race morning. Registration closes May 1 at 11:59 PM ET.
Mandatory items for 100 mile and 100k runners must be carried at all times: a GPX file on a device, two headlamps or one with spare batteries, a whistle, an emergency foil blanket, carrying capacity for at least 1 liter of water, and a collapsible cup.
