MLK Jr. Freedom Run 5K/10K/13.1 PHOENIX
The MLK Jr. Freedom Run is an annual run held in Phoenix at G.R. Herberger Park on East Indian School Road. The event is organized to coincide with Martin Luther King Jr. Day and to reflect on his commitment to justice, equality, and peace. It is described as a smaller, capped group run with participant limits per wave and a first come, first served approach for wave assignments; a wait list and a virtual option are available when waves fill.
Race formats offered include:
- 5K distance
- 10K distance
- Half marathon 13.1
- Virtual run option
- Family 1 mile fun run
Timing is optional and participants may self track with running apps or request coordinator assistance; the event does not use timing chips. Race packets do not require pickup as most swag is shipped to the registrant's US mailing address; race bibs are provided on race day. Swag includes a running T shirt, a finisher towel or giveaway, a finisher medal, and a digital training pack. An optional technical shirt upgrade is available for an additional fee. Online results and a certificate of completion are provided, and participants receive an invitation to local running clubs. The organizer notes charity initiatives including a pledge to donate one dollar for each mile logged after the race to partner charities.
