McDowell Mountain Frenzy Trail Runs - McDowell Mountain Regional Park
McDowell Mountain Frenzy is a set of trail races held at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Fountain Hills, AZ. Distances offered include:
- 50 Mile
- 50K
- 25K
- 10 Mile
- 5 Mile
Courses use desert single track and the McDowell Competitive Track. The 50K is a single-loop course that briefly enters the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The 50 Mile route includes a large loop with three out-and-back climbs (East End, Windgate, Thompson Peak) and returns to the start/finish to run the 10 mile segment. The 25K, 10 Mile, and 5 Mile routes remain largely on the competitive track, with narrow single track and short steep climbs and drops.
Aid stations are placed approximately every 3 to 10.5 miles. The event uses chip timing with live split points. Drop bag locations are provided for the 50 Mile (Dixie Mine and Headquarters) and 50K (Dixie Mine); shorter distances have drop bag access at the start/finish area. Crews are allowed at the start/finish only. Pacers are permitted for 50 Mile runners on the final loop and are not allowed for other distances.
Other details: park entry fee is $10 per vehicle as of 1/1/26, medical staff are based at the start/finish, awards are given to top three men and women at each distance, and all finishers receive a finisher award. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
