The Beltie Triathlon
The Beltie Triathlon is scheduled for 12 and 13 September 2026 in Crossmichael near Castle Douglas DG7 3AU, in south-west Scotland. Events include novice, standard (Olympic) and relay options. The transition area is located at Crossmichael Marina.
- Novice event: 300 m swim, about 10 to 12 km bike, 3 km run
- Standard event: 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike lap, 10 km run
- Relay option: Olympic distance details to be finalised
Swims take place in a slow moving river with a bay by the marina. The standard swim is two laps around marker buoys with a compulsory exit from the water between laps. A water safety team will be in position to assist as required. The novice swim is one lap close to shore.
The standard bike is one 40 km lap around Loch Ken, passing Ken Bridge, New Galloway, Laurieston and returning via Glenlochar. Roads are reported to be in good condition and the course has a mix of faster sections and some climbs. Marshals will be positioned at key locations. Novice bike legs use local tarmac circuits; there is a short run from the transition area to the road. E bikes are allowed in the novice event.
Run routes are mainly on tarmac with a short trail section at the start of the standard lap. The novice run is off road on fields near the marina.
