Rural Trail Event South of Bath

The Bath Beat is an annual walking and running event that explores the countryside on the southeastern edge of the city. The routes traverse the southern edge of the Cotswolds, taking participants through woods, hills, and river valleys. The courses follow public footpaths, cross farmland, and travel along a historical disused canal.

Participants can choose from four different distances:

  • 12.5 miles
  • 17 miles
  • 21 miles
  • 26.5 miles

The longest route passes through several local villages, including Bathford, Avoncliffe, Hinton Charterhouse, Norton St Philip, Wellow, and Combe Hay. The final section returns toward Bath via the Somerset Coal Canal and the village of Midford.

The event includes multiple checkpoints along all routes, providing refreshments such as sandwiches and cake. For those on the 21 mile and 26.5 mile courses, hot food and drinks are served in a hall at the approximate halfway point. Entry fees cover a medal for finishers and a recovery service for those unable to complete the course. The terrain offers views of the local landscape and visits historical landmarks, such as the Kennet & Avon canal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
