The Bat 5 Miler
The Bat 5 Miler is an out and back road race held at Rocky Fork State Park in Flag Pond, Tennessee. The course covers roughly 5 miles, consisting of a 2.5 mile outbound section and the return on the same paved park road.
The outbound portion follows a gradual uphill along the park road; the return is a downhill stretch that leads back to the finish. The course surface is paved and follows the park roadway rather than a closed trail.
There is one aid station located near Mile 2. Because the course is out and back, participants pass the same aid station again shortly after the turnaround, around Mile 3. Hydration is provided at that station; carrying a personal bottle or hydration vest is recommended.
Race organizers note that the park road will remain open to vehicular traffic during the event. Participants are asked to stay to the side of the road, remain aware of surroundings, and yield to incoming vehicles.
Entry fees vary by registration timing and shirt option. The standard entry fee is $17. A race t shirt option brings the entry fee to $32, and late registration fees increase for entries made within two weeks of the race or on race day without a shirt.
