The Backyard 12 with Swanage Bay Sauna is set for Saturday 4 April 2026 at Swanage Bay Sauna, Shore Place, Shore Road, Swanage, Dorset, BH19 1LB. The event uses the Backyard Ultra format in which runners complete repeated laps. The event requires runners to gather at the starting carrell in Days Park, Swanage every hour, on the hour, before a bell signals the next lap. The full challenge is 12 laps of a 4.167 mile trail.
Course, format and on-site support
The route runs in the Purbecks with views along the Jurassic Coast and includes an ascent up the ridgeway towards Old Harry’s Rocks. Entries can be individual or in teams. Teams may be of two (up to six yards each) or three (up to four yards each); team yards must be continuous alternate yards to avoid a DNF. The SBS Beyond Limits team will provide marshals, medals and sports massage. An Event Village will operate during the day with music and food and drink stalls, including Carve Coffee, Purbeck Ice Cream and the Burnt Toast; vegetarian and vegan options are listed.
