Trail Running in Thacher State Park
The Thacher Park Trail Running Festival is held at Thacher State Park in Voorheesville, New York. This event, which began in 2014, features a variety of distance options through the park's trail system. Participants can choose between four different race distances:
- 10 km
- 13.1 miles
- 26.2 miles
- 50 km
All participants start together and complete an initial 10 km loop. Those competing in the longer distances continue to the south side of the park. The marathon and 50 km races involve repeating segments of the course, with the 50 km runners finishing with an additional loop. The terrain consists of wide paths, single track trails, and sections with exposed roots, offering views of the escarpment and the Hang Glide Cliff.
This is a cupless event, and runners are required to provide their own water bottles. Aid stations are situated along the course providing water refills, while full-service stations also offer hydration drinks and snacks. Finishers of the marathon and 50 km distances receive medals. The park requires a vehicle entry fee, and carpooling is encouraged. Packet pick-up is available only on the morning of the event. While pets and strollers are permitted on the event grounds, they are not allowed on the race course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
