Texas Independence Relay
The Texas Independence Relay is a team relay composed of 36 legs of various lengths, totaling close to 200 miles. The course begins in Gonzales and finishes in downtown Houston. Teams may include up to 12 members.
The route passes through a sequence of small towns including Gonzales, Shiner, Moulton, Flatonia, Schulenburg, Weimar, Columbus, Altair, Eagle Lake, Wallis, Fulshear, and Katy before reaching Houston, where much of the final approach follows park paths into the city center. Legs vary in length and are organized to be run in sequence by team members.
The event is scheduled over two days on the last Saturday and Sunday each March, except when Easter falls on the last Sunday. The next edition is set for March 20 and March 21, 2027. Registration is offered in several formats, including full team, individual team members, team captain, corporate team, corporate team members, and free agent options, with fees that vary by registration type and date.
