Ted's Run for Literacy
Ted's Run for Literacy takes place in Kildonan Park at 2015 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The course starts at the Fox & Deer Shelter and is organized as an out-and-back route with multiple distance options that use park trails and adjacent streets.
- 2 km: one loop of the park walkway; not timed.
- 5 km: exits at Scotia Street, turnaround at 328 Scotia Avenue; chip timed; water near the turnaround.
- 10 km: exits at Scotia Street, continues to St. John's Park for one loop then returns; chip timed; water and porta-toilet at St. John's Park.
The event is fully inclusive and welcomes runners, walkers, and wheelers. For participant safety, skateboards and bicycles are not permitted on the course. The section through St. John's Park includes some off-road surface.
Established in 2010 in memory of the event's namesake, the race donates proceeds to local charities. In partnership with The Winnipeg Foundation, net proceeds support LiteracyWORKS and CanU. The event reports having donated over $100,000 to non-profits that work to break the cycle of poverty. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
