About the race
The Taygetos Challenge Marathon is a mountain running event centred on the town of Kardamyli on the Mani Peninsula. The main race is a 40 km mountain course with about 2500 m of ascent and technical terrain, including ancient mule tracks, pine forests, olive groves, boulder sections and the Vyros Gorge rising to around 850 m above sea level. A shorter option, the Taygetos 22 km Mountain Trail, is also available. The event is offered as part of a five-day trip that includes five nights hotel bed and breakfast in Kardamyli, race entry, transfers from Athens, and a guided pre-race run led by the event operator.
The race route begins on the shores of the Messinian Sea in central Kardamyli and climbs into the foothills of the Taygetos Mountains. Practical booking arrangements noted in the event materials include deposit and final payment terms and the availability of optional event insurance for refunds in case of unforeseen circumstances. The event is scheduled within a multiday weekend of trail running activities in late March. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
