Event Overview
The event in Tarpon Springs features a multi-sport festival with Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons, duathlons, aquabikes, and a standalone 5K run. It is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event, requiring either an annual membership or a one-day license for participation.
Distances and Courses
- Sprint Triathlon: A 0.25-mile swim at Fred Howard Beach, a 10-mile bike on a scenic, closed-road route across Fred Howard Causeway into Tarpon Springs, and a 5K run inside Fred Howard Park.
- Olympic Triathlon: A 0.5-mile swim at the same beach, a 20-mile bike (two loops of the 10-mile course), and a 10K run (two loops of a 5K course).
- Duathlon: A run-bike-run format of 5K run, 10-mile bike, 5K run.
- Aquabike (Sprint & Olympic): Swim and bike segments only. The sprint is a 0.25-mile swim and 10-mile bike. The Olympic is a 0.5-mile swim and 20-mile bike.
- 5K Run: A standalone running event.
Event Details
The bike course uses paved, closed roads managed by the local police and volunteers. The transition and finish area are located inside Fred Howard Park. All finishers receive a medal. Post-race refreshments include food from local Greek restaurants and cookies. Awards are given for various categories, including age groups, Clydesdale, Athena, novice, adaptive, and relay teams.
Packet pickup is available on Thursday and Friday before the race at a local bike shop, as well as on race morning at the venue. Athletes receive an information email before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
