TARCtic Frozen Yeti : Hale Education, Westwood, Massachusetts

The TARCtic Frozen Yeti takes place on February 7 and 8, 2026 at Hale Education in Westwood, Massachusetts. Distances offered include:

  • 30 hour event
  • 15 miles on a looped course

The marked course is roughly 15 miles made up of three loops of about five miles each, all starting and finishing at Powissett Lodge. Loops are color marked (Red, Blue, White) and the route is flagged with pink surveyors ribbon and reflective tape; arrows are placed at major intersections. For the 30 hour event, loops will be sequentially closed during the race and one loop will remain open for the final hours; 30 hour participants must complete at least 30 miles to receive a recorded finishers distance and a finisher item.

Aid stations are located at the lodge for each loop so participants pass an aid station about every five miles. This is a cupless event; participants must carry their own hydration system. The aid station will offer water, soda, hydration mixes, candy, cookies, hot broth, cheese quesadillas, chips, peanut butter, bananas, pickles, and ramen; composting is used for food scraps. Two drop bags are allowed at the lodge, one inside and one outside, and should be clearly labeled with bib number and name.

Required gear must be carried at all times and includes a cell phone, two hats, two pairs of hand coverings, a wind and water resistant shell, emergency blankets or a bivy, a whistle, and clothing covering exposed skin below the neck. Nighttime requirements include a headlamp with backup, a rear red blinking light, and reflective gear. If forecasts predict extreme cold below negative 20°F wind chill, additional gear such as a full change of clothes, a freestanding shelter, and an insulated hooded jacket will be required.

Snowshoes are not allowed; trekking poles are permitted. Pacers and adaptive athletes are welcome with specific gear and check in requirements. Camping is allowed in the field across from the lodge about 150 feet from the aid station with no fires or generators; crew access to the indoor lodge is restricted. Parking requires walking from remote lots and carpooling is recommended.

The event is organized by the Trail Animals Running Club, a nonprofit whose event profits support land conservation. Registration has limited capacity, no race day signup, and a no refund policy; a pregnancy deferral option exists. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
