Event Overview
The Tails & Trails 5K is an annual event taking place on Sunday, August 16, 2026. It features two separate race distances: a 5K run/walk and a Cat Walk 1K. Both events are open to participants of all ages. Pets are welcome; dogs or cats can run with their owner if they have a current license and are kept on a 6-foot leash.
Course & Activities
The 5K course takes place on the trails of Independence Oaks. During the event, a family fun zone and other activities are available on site. Local animal-related businesses, such as markets and groomers, will also be present.
Beneficiaries & Purpose
The event aims to raise funds through donations for two animal rescue organizations: Do Only Good Animal Rescue and Great Lakes Dog Rescue. Do Only Good Animal Rescue is a local, foster-based nonprofit that facilitates adoptions from the Oakland County Animal Shelter, providing care for over 4,000 animals annually. Great Lakes Dog Rescue focuses on rescuing adoptable dogs from shelters and owner surrenders.
