About the race
Tails in the Wind is a dog-friendly running event held at North Glenmore Park in Calgary on May 1, 2027. The event features a point-to-point 1 Mile course that starts near Snowy Owl Picnic Area and finishes near Bluebird Picnic Area, and a new 5k route that starts near Bluebird Picnic Area and returns to the same area. Both courses were wheel-measured for distance accuracy and use shared public paths; participants are asked to stay on the right except to pass.
Separate divisions are offered for dog teams and human-only participants, including dynamic running and walker waves. Mile waves are staggered to provide space on the path; the 5k uses a mass start. Hand timing will be used to provide results, and the 5k will have timed results.
Check-in and bib pick-up take place at the tent in Bluebird Picnic Area. Registrations include human and dog entries where applicable, race bibs, finish line refreshments and dog treats, and a race package. Post-race activities at Bluebird Picnic Area include finish line photos, a bubble machine, snacks for humans, and a doggy buffet with treats, peanut butter, and water.
A portion of registration fees supports the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS); the event lists a fundraising goal of CA$1,000. Dog rules require standard leashes (maximum 6 feet), one dog per registered person, up-to-date vaccinations, and responsible waste pickup with bags and bins provided on course.
