Tails in the Wind Mile
Tails in the Wind Mile takes place at North Glenmore Parking Lot P on North Glenmore Park Road in Calgary. The one-mile course is point to point, starting near the Snowy Owl Picnic Area and finishing near the Bluebird Picnic Area. The route was wheel-measured for distance accuracy and features a net downhill profile.
The event offers separate divisions for dog-and-human teams and for human-only participants, with staggered wave starts to provide space on the shared pedestrian path. The course is not closed to the public and will be shared with other users and simultaneous races; participants are asked to keep to the right except when passing.
Dog rules include use of a standard leash up to six feet (no retractable leashes), a limit of one dog per registered human, up-to-date vaccinations, and comfort in crowded environments. Owners are responsible for picking up after their pets; extra bags and bins will be provided.
Post-race activities at the Bluebird Picnic Area include finish-line photos, a bubble machine, post-race snacks for humans, and a doggy buffet with treats and water. The event partners with the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS); a portion of registration fees is donated toward a fundraising goal of CA$1000.
