T1D 48-Mile Challenge
The T1D 4x4x48 is an endurance event based on the format pioneered by David Goggins. Athletes run 4 miles every 4 hours over a 48-hour period. This schedule results in twelve individual 4-mile runs over two days, totaling 48 miles. The event takes place in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, and utilizes the local wilderness trails.
The weekend features several ways to participate:
- T1D 4x4x48 Ultramarathon: The full 48-mile challenge.
- Single Leg Participation: Options to run, walk, or bike a single segment of the course.
- Community Walk: A walk open to the general public held on Sunday.
- Super Hero Run: A themed run held on Saturday evening.
- Midnight Run: A late-night run where participants use glow-in-the-dark accessories.
The event schedule includes social activities such as the Dine & Dash Banquet on Friday night, featuring live entertainment and auctions. Additionally, a community breakfast is provided on Saturday and a barbecue lunch is held on Sunday. The primary purpose of the challenge is to raise funds and awareness for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) research. Proceeds support DRIFCan, an Edmonton-based organization that funds cure-based research. The structure of the run is designed to acknowledge the constant mental and physical effort required by those living with this auto-immune disease.
