Event Format
The T1D 4x4x48 is an ultramarathon following the "4x4x48" format, popularized by ultramarathoner David Goggins. Participants run 4 miles every 4 hours over a total period of 48 hours. This equals twelve 4-mile runs over 2 days, for a total of 48 miles.
Purpose & Support
This sixth annual event aims to support research for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes and raise awareness for this autoimmune disease. Funds raised go to DRIFCan, an organization based in Edmonton, Alberta, which directly funds research by Dr. James Shapiro. Over the past five years, the event has raised more than $372,000.
Weekend Schedule
The main event takes place from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7, 2026 in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. Friday evening begins with a "Dine & Dash" charity banquet featuring entertainment and auctions. The first ultramarathon run starts at 8:00 PM. Saturday features a free Tim Horton's breakfast. A "Super Hero Run" is held at 8:00 PM, followed by a midnight run. Sunday includes a free community walk and an A&W BBQ lunch. Walk registration starts at 11:00 AM for a 12:00 PM start. The ultramarathon concludes after the 4:00 PM run.
Course
The route follows the beautiful wilderness trail in Humboldt. The ultramarathon starts from the Uniplex parking lot. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
