Sydney Ultra Marathons - Event overview
The Sydney Ultra Marathons (SUM) stage trail ultra races on the northern outskirts of Sydney within Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Garigal National Park, Manly Dam and surrounding reserves. Events are held across two days in July 2026 and use St Ives Showground as the event base and race start location.
Distances offered
- 30 km: 976 m ascent
- 50 km: 1,572 m ascent
- 100 km: 2,914 m ascent
All courses are marked with signage, trail flags and marshals at key points. Fully stocked aid stations are provided at regular intervals. All participants must carry the mandatory gear list from start to finish; random gear checks will be conducted before entry to the starting corral and failure to carry required gear may lead to disqualification.
Practical arrangements include free parking at St Ives Showground and a bag drop available at the start and finish for all races, with an additional bag drop during the 100 km event. Pacers are not permitted. Race capacities are limited: SUM 100 is capped at 250 runners, SUM 50 at 400, and SUM 30 at 550. Results are indexed with ITRA and UTMB. Cut-off limits by event are set to manage safety: 25 hours for 100 km, 10 hours for 50 km and 5 hours for 30 km. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
