Event Overview

The Sydney Ultra Marathons (SUM) is an ultra-running event held in July, with races on two consecutive days. The event takes place in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Garigal National Park, Manly Dam, and surrounding reserves. All races start and finish at St Ives Showground, which is located on Sydney's Upper North Shore.

Race Distances

The event offers three race distances:

  • SUM 30: A 30 km course with 976m of elevation gain and loss.
  • SUM 50: A 50 km course with 1,572m of elevation gain and loss.
  • SUM 100: A 100 km course with 2,914m of elevation gain and loss.

Event Details

St Ives Showground offers free parking for participants and there is no need for shuttle buses. The courses are marked with signage, trail flags, and marshals. Fully stocked aid stations are placed at regular intervals. A bag drop is available at the start/finish area, and for the SUM 100, there is an additional bag drop during the race. Bib collection is available before the race and on race morning. Pacers are not permitted.

All participants must carry mandatory gear from start to finish, with random gear checks before the start. Race results are uploaded to the ITRA and UTMB indexes for international ranking.
