Sycamore Canyon Trail Races
The event is held on a loop course at Goodman Ranch Sycamore Canyon Preserve, east of San Diego. It offers solo and relay options over multiple distances and uses repeated laps to cover each distance.
Distances include:
- 102 km (100K solo or relay)
- 51 km (50K solo or relay)
- 13.1 miles (Half Marathon)
Each lap measures about 12.8 km (7.9 miles). Solo 100K runners complete eight laps. A 4 person relay for the 100K assigns two laps per runner; a 50K relay version assigns one lap per runner. Relay categories are Open (must include at least one female), Women, and Men. Substitutions are allowed up to 24 hours before race day; no substitutions on race day.
Elevation gain is approximately 1400 feet per loop, totaling about 5,600 feet for the 50K and 11,200 feet for the 100K. Drop bags are provided for solo runners only, accessible every 11.1 km. Participants may set a tent in the start/finish area but must check in and out at Race HQ; parking is outside the immediate start area and may require a quarter to half mile walk to the venue.
Safety and event rules require carrying a minimum of 40 oz of water, accepting aid only at aid stations, checking in at every aid station, staying on the marked trail, and avoiding litter. Lights are required after dark and pacers for solo runners are permitted during night segments or on the final lap. Average temperatures are listed as 71 and 48 degrees. All entrants receive a long sleeve tech shirt and finishers receive a finishers award. Specific overall prizes are listed for top finishers in each distance.
