Swanzey Covered Bridges Half-Marathon, Elijah's Race
The Swanzey Covered Bridges Half-Marathon, called "Elijah's Race", takes place in Swanzey, New Hampshire on September 6, 2026. The event runs on a course that gains between 300 and 400 feet of elevation over the distance and passes through several historic covered bridges.
The route includes covered bridges named Thompson, Carlton and Cresson, most of which date to the pre-Civil War era. The course is noted for its local New England scenery and views along rural roads and bridge crossings.
The event is held annually in memory of its founder and raises funds to support students of Monadnock Regional Middle-High School. The founder attended the regional school and later coached runners there.
Race amenities and features include a guaranteed T-shirt for participants who register by August 15, a custom participation medal for all runners, access to school locker rooms at the start and finish, and a couple of porta-potties along the course. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three finishers. The event also includes a post race barbecue and raffles.
Registration fees vary by registration date with an early bird period through May 31 and additional price periods through early September. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
