Swanzey Covered Bridges Half-Marathon, Elijah's Race
The Swanzey Covered Bridges Half-Marathon takes place in Swanzey, New Hampshire, on September 6, 2026. The event is held each year in memory of its founder and was organized to raise funds to support the students of Monadnock Regional Middle-High School; the founder attended the school and later coached runners there.
The course rises between 300 and 400 feet in elevation over the race and offers views and scenery that reflect a New England setting. Runners pass through several covered bridges, including Thompson, Carlton and Cresson, most of which date to the pre Civil War era.
Race features include a guaranteed T shirt for participants who register by August 15, a custom participation medal for all runners, access to school locker rooms at the start and finish, and a couple of porta potties along the course. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three finishers. A post race barbecue and raffles are provided after the event.
