Elijah's Race: The Swanzey Covered Bridges Half Marathon
The Swanzey Covered Bridges Half Marathon is held each year in memory of its founder, Elijah Barrett, and is also known as Elijah's Race. Elijah organized the event to donate proceeds to help the students of Monadnock Regional Middle-High School, where he attended and later coached. The race showcases landmarks in the southwestern New Hampshire town of Swanzey, located just over 10 miles from the borders with Massachusetts and Vermont.
The race starts and finishes at Monadnock Regional Middle-High School, located at 600 Old Homestead Highway in Swanzey, New Hampshire. The course includes a counter-clockwise loop through the Swanzey area. There are 6 water stations spread throughout the course, with alternating tables supplying Gatorade. The race being held at the school allows the use of bathrooms, locker rooms, and post-race showers.
After crossing the finish line, there will be a post-race barbecue, with hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, and watermelon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
