Swamp Forest Trail Run
Swamp Forest Trail Run is scheduled for January 9, 2027 at Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park in Tallahassee, Florida. The event is organized by Gulf Winds Track Club and uses a course made from three main loops that form a 6.8 mile loop.
The event offers these distances:
- Quarter Marathon, 6.8 miles, one loop
- Half Marathon, 13.6 miles, two loops
- 20-Mile Challenge, 20.4 miles, three loops
Registration opens October 1 and closes December 31. The last day to register to receive a race shirt is December 15 at noon. The event is limited to 150 runners. Registration fees listed for the distances are $39.00, $49.00, and $59.00 respectively.
The course features rolling terrain on single-track and multi-use trails. Loop descriptions note varied wetland and upland habitats: the Swamp Forest Loop passes seepage basins, ferns, ephemeral ponds, and Beech-Magnolia forest; the Coon Bottom Loop runs beside sand-bottom seepage stream areas, crosses a black-water stream, and passes Spruce Pine and upland forest; the Oak Hammock Loop runs near Lake Jackson shore with open fields and fenced gopher tortoise holes; the Creek Forest Trail follows a seepage stream with patches of Giant Cane; the Big Tree Cutoff passes swamps with Pinckneya, Needle Palms, and large Tulip-Poplars.
The course cut-off time is 1:00 PM, allowing five hours to complete the 20-Mile Challenge. Runners who do not complete the second loop within 3.5 hours may not continue and will be recorded with a half marathon finish time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
