Sunset River Run
Sunset River Run is an evening community running event in Happy Valley, near Lenoir, NC, along the Yadkin River. The program includes a point-to-point 5K and a non-timed kids 1/2 mile race for children age 12 and younger.
The 5K begins at Lapaz / Marshallberg Farm and finishes at the Happy Valley Filling Station. The course is approximately 90% hardtop and 10% natural surface; most of the route follows a public, low-traffic secondary road and it also traverses a mowed grass field. A gear check service will transfer runner items to the finish area; high-value items are discouraged.
Parking instructions require runners to park at the starting area; families, guests and spectators may park at the finish or the starting area. Courtesy shuttle service runs between the start and finish before the race and returns participants and guests from the finish to the start periodically afterwards, roughly every 20 minutes until late evening.
Awards are presented across multiple categories including overall top three male and female, masters (40+) top two, and age-group top three for standard age brackets, with trophies, gift certificates and custom medals. Registration opens April 1; fees and closing dates differ by event. Register by May 11 to guarantee an official event T-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
