Sundowner Trail Marathon
The Sundowner Trail Marathon is scheduled for 5th of June 2027 around Purleigh, Essex with the start and main event base at Purleigh Village Hall. The route covers approximately 27 miles with about 2,500 ft of ascent and is designed as two different loops that return to the start/finish at the halfway point, which also serves as checkpoint two and allows access to drop bags.
The course passes coastal saltmarsh, canal towpaths, vineyards and forests and will be fully waymarked. There are three checkpoints spread across the route; these will be well stocked and include vegan options. The event is cupless. Runners with additional dietary requirements are asked to note them on their entry.
Mandatory kit includes the mobile phone provided on the entry form, a head torch rated at least 250 lumens and a separate backup light source that is not a phone. A drop bag may be accessible at roughly 15 miles at the event headquarters. No crewing or pacing is permitted.
Prizes and records are part of the event structure: a new course record earns £100, and open category winners receive bespoke trophies plus £50. Runners up receive £25 and third place £15. A marked Strava segment of roughly 1 km awards a special prize to the fastest male and female; top three finishers are not eligible. The field is limited to 50 runners and the entry fee is £21.50.
