Sunbeams Uganda 5K
The Sunbeams 5K is a charity walk, jog, and run held to raise funds for Sunbeams Uganda. The event takes place on Saturday, September 19 at Three Oaks Recreation Area, Pavilion A (5517 Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake, IL). The course is one lap around the lake and is 5K (3.1 miles) long.
Registration fees are listed as $35 for adults and $25 for children aged 5 to 12. Registration includes an event T-shirt while supplies last, and the event provides refreshments and water. Registering by September 1 guarantees a shirt size. Day-of registration is available at the venue.
The event is stroller friendly; dogs are not permitted due to known allergies among participants. Parking is available on-site at Three Oaks Recreation Area. Organizers note that 100% of registration fees, sponsorships, and donations will be given directly to Sunbeams Uganda.
Sunbeams Uganda directs funds toward education, housing, nourishment, and community development in Kijjude, Uganda. Current projects mentioned include construction of a new cafeteria and a chapel, as well as support for a primary school, teacher housing, and local job-creating efforts such as a sewing school and a barber shop.
