Summit Run 5K
The Summit Run 5K is a road race that finishes atop Mt. Holyoke with a panoramic view of the Connecticut River and the Pioneer Valley. The event is presented by the Sugarloaf Mountain Athletic Club as part of the SMAC Race Series and is endorsed by the New England 65 Plus Runners Club.
The course was redesigned recently to remove the Route 47 stretch and to add more scenic sections. Mile 1 begins with a short 0.4 mile uphill on Mountain Road toward the Skinner State Park gate, then a right onto Old Mountain Road and a fast 0.6 mile gentle downhill through Hockanum Village to the turnaround. Mile 2 returns up Old Mountain Road, passing historic homes and the Skinner State Park gate, then climbs toward the water stop at mile 2. The final mile rises about 800 feet on a paved road to the summit finish atop Mt. Holyoke.
Registration opens in June 2027. Discounts are available for SMAC members and for participants age 65 and older. Race day registration is offered and a portion of proceeds will be donated to the Kestrel Land Trust.
Additional race details include a halfway water stop, refreshments at the finish, custom race tech shirts for registrations completed by August 30th, electronic timing with instant results, and awards presented at the summit finish line to age group winners.
