Summit Run 5K

The Summit Run 5K is a road race that finishes at the summit of Mt. Holyoke, offering a panoramic view of the Connecticut River and the Pioneer Valley. The event is open to runners and walkers and is part of the SMAC Race Series; it is endorsed by the New England 65 Plus Runners Club.

Registration will open in June 2026. The event listing notes a SMAC member discount with a code, a senior (65+) discount, a price increase on September 1, and race day registration availability. A portion of race proceeds will be donated to the Kestrel Land Trust. Results are posted on the SMAC results page.

The course was revised for 2025 to remove the Rte 47 stretch and add more scenic sections. Mile 1 begins with a short 0.4 mile uphill on Mountain Road, then a right onto Old Mountain Road for a 0.6 mile gentle downhill through Hockanum Village to the turnaround. Mile 2 returns up Old Mountain Road, passing historic homes, through the Skinner State Park gate, and climbs to the water stop at the two mile point. The final mile climbs about 800 feet on a paved road to the summit finish.

Race services include custom technical shirts for entries by August 30, a halfway water stop, finish area refreshments, a walk back to the start parking area, and timing by Rat Race Timing with instant results. Awards consist of Atkin Farms apple pies presented at the summit finish to age group winners, with male and female divisions. Age groups start under 9 and continue in standard adult ranges including five year groups from 60 to 84 plus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
