Summit Run 5K

The Summit Run 5K is a five-kilometer road race that finishes at the summit of Mt. Holyoke, with a panoramic view over the Connecticut River and the Pioneer Valley. The event is open to runners and walkers and is part of the SMAC Race Series; it is also endorsed by the New England 65 Plus Runners Club for its five-year age groups from 60 to 90.

The course was redesigned for 2025 to remove the Rte 47 stretch and add more scenic sections. The route begins with a short 0.4 mile uphill on Mountain Road, turns right onto Old Mountain Road for a 0.6 mile gentle downhill through Hockanum Village to the turnaround, returns up Old Mountain Road past historic homes and the Skinner State Park gate, and finishes with a final mile that climbs approximately 800 foot on a paved road to the summit finish line.

Race features include a water stop at the halfway point, refreshments at the finish area, custom technical shirts for those registered by August 30, timing by Rat Race Timing with instant results, and Race Day registration availability. Race proceeds include a donation to the Kestrel Land Trust. Awards in the form of Atkin Farms apple pies are presented at the summit finish line to age group winners, male and female. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
