Summit Run 5K
The Summit Run 5K is a road race that finishes at the summit of Mount Holyoke with a panoramic view of the Connecticut River and the Pioneer Valley. The event is scheduled for September 20, 2026 and is part of the SMAC Race Series. It is endorsed by the New England 65 Plus Runners Club.
The course was redesigned to remove a Rte 47 stretch and to include more scenic sections. Mile 1 begins with a short 0.4 mile uphill on Mountain Road toward the Skinner State Park gate, then a right onto Old Mountain Road with a fast 0.6 mile gentle downhill through Hockanum Village to the turnaround. Mile 2 returns up Old Mountain Road past historic homes, through the park gate, and toward a water stop at the halfway point. The final mile climbs approximately 800 feet on a paved road to the summit finish.
Race logistics include timing by Rat Race Timing with instant results, a water stop at the halfway point, and refreshments at the finish area. Custom technical T-shirts are available for registrations by August 30. Awards, including Atkin Farms apple pies, are presented at the summit finish and given to age group winners for both male and female divisions. Age-group divisions start Under 9 and include 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and five year groups from 60 to 84 plus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
