Event Overview

The Summer Trail Classic is the third event in the 2026 Dick Pond Athletics Darn Tough Trail Race Series. It takes place on the single-track trails of Paul Douglas Forest Preserve in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Distances

The event offers three trail running distances:

  • Approximate 9.5 miles
  • Approximate 13 miles

Walking is only permitted for the 4-mile distance. Course support ends at 12:00 PM.

Course & Logistics

The race uses the trails at Paul Douglas Forest Preserve. If significant rain makes the trails unusable, the event will be moved to the preserve's asphalt bike path, with a decision communicated by the Friday before the event. There are three water stations on the course, but participants are recommended to carry their own liquids. The use of fully over-ear headphones or two earbuds is not allowed for safety. The trail closes at 11:00 AM.

Bib pick-up is available the day before at Dick Pond Athletics in Hoffman Estates or on the morning of the event at the race site.

Registration & Perks

Registered participants receive a Leslie Jordan running vest. The event features overall and age group awards. A raffle is held during the race, with prizes including Darn Tough socks. Proceeds benefit the Chicago Area Mountain Bikers (CAMBr), an organization focused on trail maintenance and cycling advocacy.
