Summer Sizzler - Des Moines
The Summer Sizzler is an annual running event taking place in Des Moines, Iowa. It features a variety of distances to accommodate different preferences, including options for timed competitive runs and untimed participation. Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 15K (9.3 miles)
- 10K (6.2 miles)
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- 1 Mile (untimed)
- Kids Dash (untimed dash for children ages 10 and under)
Registered participants for the 5K, 10K, and 15K receive a custom bib, a designer shirt, and a finisher medal. These distances utilize chip-timing with live results and awards provided. The 1 Mile event is untimed but includes a custom bib, shirt, and medal. The Kids Dash provides a mini bib, youth-sized shirt, and a specific medal, though children may participate for free without receiving these items.
The event offers additional amenities at the finish line, including a variety of treats and free Kona Ice. Professional photos of the event are provided to participants at no cost. A group registration system is available where teams reaching four or ten members receive partial refunds on their registration fees. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual race option allows for the completion of any distance at a location of the participant's choice to earn the event materials.
