Race #3 Sturt Gorge
Race #3 Sturt Gorge is held at Sturt Gorge Recreation Park in Craigburn Farm, South Australia. The course follows winding single-track through woodland slopes and bushland, includes sections of boulder scrambling and runs along creek lines, and offers sweeping views of the hillsides.
Runners should expect creek crossings that may result in wet feet; heavy rain can create waterfalls along Magpie Gully. The area supports visible wildlife such as koalas, grazing kangaroos and echidnas. The park was originally inhabited and cared for by the Kaurna people. Sturt Gorge is approximately a 30 minute drive from the city.
Distances and elevation for the event are:
- Long: 21 km, 606 m elevation
- Medium: 15 km, 413 m elevation
- Short: 9 km, 234 m elevation
- Kids cross country: about 1 km
On-course support includes drink stations offering water and lollies; participants must bring their own drinking container. Placegetters receive medals. Walkers may take part only on the short course to meet course closure requirements, and all participants must stay ahead of course sweepers while cutoffs are strictly enforced. The long course is listed as a UTMB® Index race and an ITRA National Challenge event; the courses do not attract ITRA points. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
