Strawberry Strut : Carthage, IL
The Strawberry Strut is a community running event held at the Hancock County Courthouse square in Carthage. The event program includes these distances:
- 5 Mile Run
- 5k Run
- 5K Walk
- 1 Mile Run/Walk
Race day registration and packet pickup are available on the morning of the event, and an early packet pickup is held at the courthouse on Friday, June 5 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All 5-mile and 5k participants registered by May 1 will receive a T-shirt; registrations after May 1 are not eligible for a shirt. 1 Mile participants may purchase a shirt for $15 during registration by May 1. Shirt sizes range from Youth Small to Adult 3XL.
The 5k and the 5 mile both start on the north side of the courthouse, follow a lap around the square, then proceed through downtown streets with turnbacks and a return to the finish at Wabash and S. Madison. The 5 mile course continues out to Jaycee Park, follows a lakeside road past a golf course and ascends a noticeable hill before returning to town.
Age groups are specified for the 5 Mile Run by male and female categories. The 1 Mile Fun Run awards ribbons to the top two male and female finishers in each age from 5 to 12, and a plaque to the first male and female finisher. Net proceeds will be donated to Hancock County Fights Cancer. No refunds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
