Event Overview
The Stone Harbor Turtle Trot is an annual athletic event held during Memorial Day Weekend in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. Now in its 26th year, the event is organized by the Stone Harbor Chamber of Commerce. The name of the race is inspired by the local Diamondback Terrapins that traverse the town's roads to find nesting areas. A portion of the proceeds from the event supports the Diamond Terrapin Program at The Wetlands Institute.
Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- 5 km Run
- 2 mile Fun Walk
Course and Participation
The 5 km run is conducted on a fast course that transitions through the scenic residential neighborhoods of Stone Harbor. For those choosing the 2 mile fun walk, the event is untimed and non-competitive. All registered participants receive an event t-shirt while supplies last. The event takes place rain or shine, and results for the timed race are posted online immediately following the conclusion of the event.
Awards and Recognition
Medals are awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers overall in the 5 km race. Additionally, awards are presented to the top three men and women across six different age categories. These prizes are available for collection at the Chamber of Commerce on the afternoon of the race.
Logistics
Registration and check-in for pre-registered participants are located at the Lifeguard Shack Parking Lot at 95th Street and the beach. Support for the event includes fundraising opportunities and volunteer positions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
