About the race
The Stocking Stuffer Holiday Walk/Run is a festive community event held at Bowness Park in Calgary. Participants travel along the park's pathways on a 3.2 km course. This event is not timed, emphasizing a recreational experience rather than a competitive race.
During the walk or run, participants carry a provided stocking and stop at various points to collect holiday treats and items. The route includes narrow pathways where participants may move in both directions. The event is open to all ages, though children under 12 must remain within arm's reach of a parent or guardian. Dogs are permitted on the course provided they are kept on a short leash.
Registered participants receive several items and amenities:
- A holiday stocking
- Stocking stuffer items collected along the course
- A finisher's medal that can be used as a Christmas tree ornament
- An apple fritter and hot chocolate after the event
The event site features music and an announcer to contribute to the holiday atmosphere. Organizers also partner with the Calgary Food Bank, encouraging participants to bring non-perishable food donations to the on-site donation truck. Package pick-up is available the day before the event at a local real estate office or on the morning of the event at Bowness Park Picnic Site 3.
