Stinger 5K at the 180th
The Stinger 5K is held at the 180th Fighter Wing, Ohio National Guard Base, located at the Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport in Swanton, Ohio. This event allows the public to access the base for a course that begins and ends at the 9/11 Memorial. The route takes participants past fighter wing parking pads and onto the Stinger tarmac.
Participants can choose from several event categories:
- 5K running race
- Stinger Walk for those preferring a non-competitive walking pace
- Stroller / Wagon Rider registration for children being pushed or pulled
- Virtual 5K option for remote participation
- Kids Run specifically for 180th Fighter Wing families
Access to the base and the memorial is restricted to individuals who have been cleared through security protocols, including all registered participants and volunteers. The event is designed to be family-friendly and provides a unique opportunity to experience the environment of an active National Guard Base. Registration for the in-person events typically closes several months before the race date to accommodate security requirements.
