Event Overview
The Stevenage Half Marathon is an annual running event that has been held since 1984. The race takes place in October and follows a course that is entirely traffic-free. While the half marathon is held every year, a full marathon distance is organized only once every 10 years.
Distances
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- Marathon (held every 10 years, next due in 2034)
Course and Location
The race headquarters is located at Hampson Park Community Centre. The half marathon route consists of two loops that take participants through Fairlands Valley Park and parts of the town centre. The course is entirely road or cycle path based, meaning there are no off-road or muddy sections. The route is fully signposted and marshalled throughout.
Competition and Certification
The course is officially measured and the event is licensed by England Athletics, with results appearing on Power of 10. The event also hosts the Hertfordshire Road Running Half Marathon veteran championships, which is open to those born in Hertfordshire or residents of the area for at least nine months.
Charity and Support
The event acts as a charity fundraiser, supported by volunteers from Fairlands Valley Spartans Running Club and Stevenage Scouts. All proceeds are donated to local charities. Each year a specific organization is chosen for support; for the 2026 edition, the nominated charity is Ehlers-Danlos UK. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
