Mental Health Support and Community Running
Steps for Strong Minds is a community event held at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Managed by the AB Korkor Foundation, the event focuses on the connection between physical activity and mental well-being. This initiative replaces the previous Five Fifty Fifty program and emphasizes local accessibility and family participation.
The event features two distances:
- 5K (Run/Walk)
- 40 Yards (Strong Minds Sprint)
The 5K course is open to participants of all ages and abilities. Registration for this distance is free for children aged 13 and under, though all participants must be registered and youth must be accompanied by an adult.
The Strong Minds Sprint is a 40-yard dash specifically designed for children aged 10 and under. This short-distance activity aims to introduce young participants to physical movement as a way to support mental health and build confidence.
Proceeds from the registration fees support local programs focused on mental health awareness and physical fitness for children. These programs are designed to help youth develop resilience and healthy habits through active lifestyle choices. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
