Stavanger Marathon
Stavanger Marathon is an annual road-running event in Stavanger city centre, organised by GTI Friidrettsklubb. The event is held on the last Saturday in August; the 2026 edition is scheduled for 29 August. The programme includes several distances and a children’s race, and races are organised in multiple age categories for both youth and adults.
The courses run through local areas around Stavanger, with sections along lakes and fjords. Underfoot surfaces include a mix of asphalt and gravel. Several courses are officially measured: the marathon and half marathon are certified A-measured courses, and the 5 km is a certified C-measured course.
Practical notes from the organiser include:
- Barneløp (children’s race)
- 5 km, with the start this year planned near the bike path by Mariero station, accessible by train
- Halvmaraton (half marathon)
- Maraton (marathon)
Participants can change to a shorter distance by logging into their registration, but it is not possible to move up to a longer distance. Transfer of start numbers is allowed only within the same distance; certain discounted entries for age groups may be transferred only to persons in the same age bracket. Race bibs are collected at the Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel on the days before and of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
