Stars & Stripes 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run
The event in Rangeley, Maine features a 5K run and a separate kids fun run. The 5K route follows paved and gravel roads through the town and offers scenic views of nearby wilderness and the lake. The course includes gradual inclines, downhills, and flat sections.
Organizers note that strollers are not safe on the course and that leashed pets are welcome. Some early 5K registrants receive a Stars & Stripes T shirt; fun run participants do not receive shirts. Children in the fun run receive a festive goody bag and an ice cream cone from local vendors Frosty or The Farmers Daughter.
Awards are presented to the first adult female and male 5K finishers and to the first place girl and boy under 18. Registration fees apply for the 5K while the kids fun run is free. Proceeds support the health and wellness initiatives of Rangeley Health and Wellness, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
